Took a trip to the back of my mind Found myself down by the riverside Heard a man screaming at the sky He made no sense but he sure did try Down by the riverside. Down by the riverside on the edge of town in the back of my mind A lonely dog sits under a tree and if she could talk, oh the things she’s seen I see a rope hanging over a swimming hole and my brother making that water explode Down by the riverside. Down by the riverside on the edge of town in the back of my mind We left our shoes and ran upstream, it’s not clear what we were thinking. Before we jumped we didn’t ask would the current let us pass Down by the riverside.

Twin memories Faded in print While you kept the set I traded mine in I can still see you in your pastel suit proffering a white corsage Whenever your ghost appears, there swells my heart. Over the house Is six and out With your freshly minted tape Let’s split this town If we’re really feeling it Let’s take my car and head on out to seven bends And smoke some pot Whenever your ghost appears, there swells my heart. I think I can feel you, is that weird? I hear you laughing, that much is real No I’m not crazy Just hoping you’ll walk back in that door again one day. Last time we spoke Seems like an age All I can hear Are the things I didn’t say What kept me from reaching out Am I secretly ashamed of what I have become? Whenever your ghost appears, there swells my heart.

The sun sets in your eyes The moon is eclipsed by your smile It’s hard to stay angry at somebody so heavenly The rain it falls for your thirst The birds are singing for your mirth They are a choir, they sing what you desire. Baby, it’s for you. The seas swell for your health All the fishes offer up themselves to be swallowed They would be honoured. A comet screams across the sky All it’s hoping is to catch your eye It’s slowly dying, are you seeing? Baby, it’s for you.

Slumber Eyes 04:41
Curled up watching porcelain Half light A fool to disturb at this rare time Its calm outside And no one’s waking us today I’ll try to stay awake hand picking fresh memories Like a florist alone at a market Spoilt for choice in the amber glow My basket never sees a load I’ll hoard until I’ve fallen back asleep Through slumber eyes I like to remember you through slumber eyes. Waiting for you to turn back on your side The market is closing but I’ll be fine In the half light These blooms will keep and never dull I’ll dole them out one by one They’re savoured precious memories

Caught between malaise and the duvet I’m late again This time of year I always feel middling The clock is changed as the leaves turn brown I guess it’s time to pack away those summer plans The smell of fresh cut grass is a memory passed So pull out your flannelette sheets Maybe it’s time to up the meds again And cut out all drinking during the week Mental hibernation Swiftly sweeps across the nation No need for agitation, we’re ok. South of indecision, bordering apathy On my way to detachment street Between malaise and the duvet it’s safe to say I’ll have to give up those hacky sack dreams Mental hibernation Swiftly sweeps across the nation I try to remember There will be another summer

Beautiful child, the one I never laid eyes on They just swept you away back in those good old days I don’t know if you look like me In a women’s ward on the outskirts of town Is where they shamed me I bid you farewell when they severed the braid Grief mixed up with relief My heart has been broken since you were announced And I learned that this swift goodbye was coming. I wasn’t permitted to comfort your first cries Caught up in the moment I forget the colour of your eyes Innocent child of my own design Now all your dreams are free

When your tears have dried there’ll be another every after Until that time don’t go too far away When your tears have dried oh no more sorrow Nothing more than salt under your eyes It’s a delicate balance Flirting with malice Don’t be tied to inherited patterns It’s a bad trip, all dressed up like a skinny dip Can’t say you didn’t try. When your tears have dried you’ll usher in a better tomorrow As you awake tomorrow becomes today When your tears have dried oh no more sorrow Nothing more than salt under your eyes

Nothing is wrong I just can’t get along While I’m here alone Should I just dance it off? The feel of moccasin sliding over tongue and groove That’s what pulls me through My senses have peaked To close to the skin Not liking the cut Of the vibes I’m picking up I need that feel of moccasin sliding over tongue and groove Hush my tactile ills. If you’re having a bad day, just dance. Sliding around Forgetting the drought Unchaperoned I’ll just dance it off I need that feel of moccasin sliding over tongue and groove My cup is filled as I move Soon I’ll see the dust Glisten in the sun That’s when I’ll know I’ve gone and danced it out That feel of moccasin sliding over tongue and groove Lay waste to the tarnished mood

The worst in me May it be easy to see Smote the flame Before the blaze Echoed feet Wander down narrow halls Pick the lock Open the door Innocence, your soul is my privileged I’m merely holding it until it’s time to let go. May my inkling Be everlasting Ring the bell Anoint the babe You are so pure I mean not to dilute May our gesturing Be heirloomed. Innocence Your soul is my privileged I’m merely holding it until it’s time to let go. A long goodbye That takes up a lifetime So turn the field and lay the crop Enter the plee Raise the mast
